Accident at Northvolt

Northvolt

Two individuals have been discharged from the hospital following an accident at Northvolt in Skellefteå on Sunday.

The accident occurred in a laboratory during routine work involving waste management after a quality check, according to press chief Matti Kataja in an email to TT.

“… and during this, one person was exposed to some type of vapor for a few seconds. The other person was not exposed but was nearby with protective equipment,” he writes.

The individuals were decontaminated and then taken to the hospital for evaluation.

At around 5:30 PM, Northvolt announced that the individuals were in good condition and had left the hospital.

It is still unclear what type of vapor it was, but according to SVT Västerbotten, it was likely electrolyte vapor.

“Generally, brief exposure to electrolyte vapor can lead to coughing and irritation in the nose, throat, and airways,” Matti Kataja writes to TT.

According to the Västerbotten police, it is too early to determine if the accident will lead to a police investigation.
