The E4 Förbifart Stockholm, a motorway connection running from Kungens Kurva south of Stockholm to Häggvik north of the city, spans over twenty kilometers, most of which is in a tunnel.
The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has now decided to open a part of the route four years earlier than planned. This section is a 3.5-kilometer stretch between Häggvik and Hjulsta.
According to Trafikverket, the opening is expected to reduce travel times for commuters and alleviate traffic on the larger surrounding roads.
The partial opening is planned for the fall of 2026, while the entire E4 Förbifart Stockholm is scheduled to be fully operational by 2030.
