The investigation against a man suspected of rape was dropped by the police due to a lack of evidence. However, before that happened, the man had been exposed as a rapist by name and photo on Facebook, and the post gained wide circulation. Now, a man in Malmö is being charged with aggravated defamation, Sydsvenskan reports.
The public exposure had serious consequences – the man lost his job and received threatening messages.
The man now facing charges is the father of the girl who was the victim of the crime. In police interviews, he explained that he acted in shock.
The girl’s mother is also being charged with illegal threats due to comments she made in the Facebook post’s comment section. Both parents deny any wrongdoing.
