Shooting in Södertälje – one dead

A man who was found seriously injured with gunshot wounds in an apartment in Södertälje has died, according to the police.

Police and ambulance services were alerted to an apartment in the Blombacka area around 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

“When we arrived at the scene, it turned out that a person had been shot, was seriously injured, and was being treated by ambulance personnel,” says police spokesperson Per Fahlström.

Despite the efforts of the ambulance personnel, the man’s life could not be saved. His next of kin have been informed.

“We are now conducting a police operation, we have cordoned off the area for a forensic examination, and will implement additional investigative measures,” says Per Fahlström.

An investigation into murder has been initiated.

The police are currently searching for one or more perpetrators, and no arrests have been made. As of Tuesday morning, the police are still on the scene, conducting door-to-door inquiries and reviewing surveillance footage.

Near the scene, an abandoned and burned-out moped was found. The report about the moped came to the police at 4:15 a.m., about ten minutes after the report of the shooting.

“It came in as a report of a fire. We are looking into whether there might be a connection. It seems to have burned during the night,” says police spokesperson Helena Boström Thomas.
