Several individuals were detained after a suspected dangerous object was found at Stockholm Central Station on Wednesday evening. The station was evacuated and bomb technicians were called to the scene.
The Prosecutor’s Office confirms that two people, a man and a woman both between the ages of 30 and 40, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
They are both suspected on probable grounds of violating the law on flammable and explosive goods, a serious crime, and for preparation for aggravated public destruction.
“The suspects will be questioned today along with their public defenders. We expect to have a clearer understanding of the case after these interviews,” senior prosecutor Carolina Frohm stated in a press release.
The police press service also referred all questions to the Prosecutor’s Office.
“The prosecutor will handle all inquiries,” said Anders Bryngelsson, spokesperson for Stockholm Police, to SvD.
According to Aftonbladet, the detainees were allegedly carrying a thermos bomb in a bag. The bomb was reportedly intended for delivery to a location in northern Sweden, according to the newspaper’s sources. The two are suspected of preparation for public destruction and drug offenses.
